Rebuilding Lives

The Rebuilding Lives initiative started for Cidon in 2018, designed to support serving and ex - prisoners into sustainable employment within the construction industry.

We are committed to recruiting eager, hardworking individuals while providing a second chance to those who need it most. Since launching, we have proudly supported over 50 ex-offenders in securing meaningful employment within the industry—helping them rebuild their lives and create a better future.

In collaboration with our partner organisations, we offer purposeful training through prison workshops, including formal qualifications like CSCS. This initiative helps prepare ex-offenders both psychologically and practically, ensuring they are ready for sustainable employment.

Once this preparation process is completed, the ex-offenders are ready to be offered an opportunity via ROTL (Release on Temporary Licence) or direct release from a closed prison.

We work closely with each individual to create a clear pathway into meaningful employment with Cidon, aiming to offer them a full-time position upon release. Through targeted training and progression routes, we provide the opportunity to develop valuable skills or trades, setting them up for long-term success and a fulfilling career.

We now have many rewarding stories to share of those that have joined us through this programme who can testify of their lives being changed for them and their families.

These individuals can attest to how their lives — and the lives of their families — have been transformed for the better. We strive to break the cycle of crime and punishment, providing employment and the appropriate intervention and support upon release.

Statistics

  • Prison sentences alone are not enough to deter offenders from committing crimes, and certainly not enough to break the cycle of crime that captures so many people who serve time in prison.
  • Almost 80% of offenders released from prisons will be arrested for another crime within five years.
  • Almost 60% of ex-offenders will be arrested within three years, and a third will be re-arrested within six months of release. There are many root causes, but in particular the lack of opportunities for offenders to find work and support themselves and their families.
